HBCU Transfer Agreements
California Community College students who complete certain academic requirements are guaranteed transfer to one of many participating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), who signed an agreement with California Community Colleges on March 17, 2015.
The goal of this agreement is to educate students about additional transfer opportunities at these institutions and develop pathways that will ultimately contribute to an increase in baccalaureate degree attainment. These Transfer Guarantee Agreements will also facilitate a smooth transition for students from all of the California Community Colleges to targeted HBCU's.
Historically Black Colleges and Universities include 68 public and private universities that are vary in size and offer wide range of degree programs. Among them, there are 39 institution that are participating in Transfer Guarantee Agreement with California Community Colleges.

Guarantees admission to all participating institutions

Application fee may be waived - fee waiver code available to the online Common Black College Application.

You may complete one Application to apply for up to four participating institutions.

You will have access to pre-admission advising by program staff and institution representatives

Priority consideration for campus housing (when deadlines are met)

Priority consideration for scholarships for students with a 3.2 GPA or higher based on institutions' available funding

- Complete one of the following General Education options:
- Complete an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) with IGETC or CSU General Education Breadth
OR

- Complete a minimum of 30 UC or CSU transferrable units.
Students who complete an Associate Degree may apply, but will not able to benefit from the Associate Degree for Transfer that is Guarantee Admission, and their degree applicable courses are subject to review and evaluation.

Students may apply to any HBCU institutions using the Common Black College Application.

- Additional Documents - each university may require additional documents such as transcript and recommendation letter in addition to the application.
- Application Deadlines - the deadlines are set by the individual institution.
Please check the undergraduate Admission website of each university to find about the required documents, application deadline, and ay other instructions.
Application fee is $20 for all HBCUs. (only one non-refundable fee of $20)
If you are applying to one of the 39 HBCU participants, your application fee can be waived as part of the Transfer Agreements with Community Colleges. Please contact the Transfer Center for more information.
Students may apply for financial aid through FAFSA. The individual institutions also offer scholarships based on fund availability.
